For the Love of Bristol

The 325th anniversary celebration of Bristol Borough came to an eventful close on October 28, 2006 in the Regency room at the Goodwill Firehouse. The festivities began with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:00.  “The turnout is very good,” stated Anna Bono Larrisey president of the 325th anniversary committee.

As the evening progressed from food to fun, Anna’s husband, Joe Larrisey stepped up to the microphone to make a few short presentations and laughingly refer to himself as the game show host, Wink Martindale as he announced Mayor Joseph Saxton. Mayor Saxton thanked the committee, volunteers and participants who unselfishly gave of their time and resources throughout the year to make Bristol Borough’s 325th anniversary a success. The Mayor said “I know there was some concern initially that back in January we might have to hire a professional to make this all happen, but cooler heads prevailed and as you can see there’s a lot of talent in this room that made this 325th celebration happen, so we didn’t have to go out and hire a professional.” He also acknowledged several of the successful events that took place throughout the year and shared his appreciation for everyone who helped him participate in all those events.

Following the invocation offered by Doctor John roach, Joe Larrisey returned to the podium with a few minutes of levity regarding his wife’s shoe shopping technique of purchasing two pair of Payless shoes for the price of one. (You had to be there but it was funny. Sorry if you missed it! If you’d like to see it visit www.bristolboro.com)

Anna thanked her other committee officers, Robyn Trunell, Vice President and Angelo Grisolia, Secretary/ Treasurer. “And my thanks to Mayor Joe Saxton and to

Ralph DiGiuseppe for asking me and for having faith in me to chair this historic event for our lovely town of Bristol which I love so much.” Anna continued then to introduce all the committee chairs and thanked them and their teams.  They all made this possible this year. She concluded with “every one of you knows that it was my pleasure serving our community. This is the town I was born and raised in, loved and work for. I would do whatever I can to make our town a better town, and we’re on our way!”

The presentation segment of the evening concluded with Joe (Martindale) Larrisey singing a duet of “Thanks for the memories” with the Ed Tracy.

Although along with Mayor Saxton the room was peppered with local elected officials including Council President Ralph DiGuissppe, Councilwoman Robyn Trunell, Councilman Anthony Muccie, this event also attracted Congressional candidate Patrick Murphy and his wife Jennifer to help officially close the celebration of Bristol’s 325th anniversary and to honor the people who volunteered throughout the year just “for the love of Bristol”.

The remainder of the evening consisted folks stopping to watch the continuous slide presentation on the history of Bristol Borough and casual conversation accompanied by a jukebox in the background playing music spanning multiple generations. It even played “The Bristol Stomp”!
