Dear Neighbor, As lifetime members of Bristol Borough, we take tremendous pride in the people of our town. Walking among us today (and some that are no longer with us) are men and women who have served our community, county, state and country proudly. These people wore the uniform of one of the branches of our nations military. Through their dedication and honorable service we enjoy
our way of life and the freedoms granted to us by our constitution.
We, the members of the Bristol Borough Veterans Memorial Committee, are seeking your help in erecting a veterans’ memorial monument that will recognize these men and women. The theme of the monument is “The Past, The Present, The Future”. We met with the Bristol Borough Council to obtain approval to erect such a monument. They granted their approval without hesitation and promised us the help of Borough
employees. We also met with Tom Rudesyle, a local artist who drew us some sketches and we have been working with Scott Brown, an architect to plan the construction.
WE NEED YOUR HELP. There is no available government database of veterans by hometown. We can only accomplish our goal of being all-inclusive regardless of race, religion or creed through your input. We are requesting the names of your family members or friends who have served during a time of war – or – a time of peace and were honorably discharged. Please fill out the enclosed form listing the names of
family members or friends. It is our intent to include every citizen who entered the service while living in Bristol Borough. The goal is to erect a spectacular monument where the names of all Bristol Borough Veterans will be listed in one place. A Monument the entire town will be proud to call ours.
The monument will be located on Farragut Avenue (currently home to the Harriman World War II monument). We do not intend to replace the current monument. Rather, we intend to enhance it by erecting granite blocks listing the names of all who are current or former Bristol Borough residents that are veterans. We expect to receive approximately 2000 names that will be etched into the granite blocks. This is a
huge undertaking that will require approximately $500,000 to complete. We are appealing to the business community, the service clubs, the social clubs and the community at large for financial support.
The community support can be through outright donations as well as through the sale of bricks etched with the donor’s name or message. The cost of each brick is $100.00. The bricks, paving the approach to the monument will be known as the WALK OF HONOR. It will memorialize those citizens that supported the troops from home while working in factories, etc. and any Bristol Borough resident/veteran that did not
live in Bristol Borough when entering the military.
We are in the process of incorporating and applying for a non-profit status (501c3). This status when obtained will make your donation tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Your donation supporting this monument is urgently needed and will be greatly appreciated.
All of our Borough veterans deserve full recognition for their sacrifices and devotion to our country. Help us show them it is appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your help and support.
